Patricia was born in Beauharnois Quebec in 1956 next to Alcan’s hydro power plant. She grew up in Kitimat, British Columbia (1958-1969) and Newcastle Upon Tyne, England (1969-1973). Her childhood experiences ranged from forest adventures and climbing the mighty Douglas Fir in northern British Columbia to navigating city bus routs, and the Geordie language and culture in northern England.
At seventeen, with O Levels under her belt, Patricia was accepted into General Arts and Sciences at Mount Allison University. The draw to Fine Arts was impossible to resist, so she put together a portfolio and began her BFA the following year. An MFA from Concordia, and a Dip. ED. From McGill followed.
With a growing family of three, and over twenty years as a working single parent, Patricia focused on creating works on paper using soft pastel and permanent inks because of their quick set-up and clean-up times. Later, as her children became accomplished adults she began experimenting with oil and acrylic paints, finally settling with oils, and on developing her subject of landscape in motion.
Patricia now has over 35 years of exhibition history, which began with sculpture, drawing and installation exhibitions in Montreal and the Maritime Provinces in the1980's, followed by exhibitions of abstract pastel works and ink paintings in Ottawa, Kingston and Toronto through the 1990's. In 2003 she moved to Pointe-Claire where she currently resides. Patricia continues to exhibit in central and eastern Canada. Her Landscape in Motion series has experienced a few style changes over the years, and has recently undergone a new black and white experience.
Patricia’s teaching career began in the Continuing Education and Fine Art Departments of Mount Allison University where she taught drawing and sculpture. She taught Art and Photography at the Secondary level in Kingston, and at Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School for Girls in Montreal. Patricia currently works as a professional artist and full time caregiver for her mother.
Patricia Morris is an award-winning artist with works in major Canadian collections.
